International Women’s Day has been celebrated on March 8th every year since 1975. International Women’s Day is recognized by United Nations and this year the theme is “Equality for women is progress for all.” This theme speaks volumes so eloquently. I could not agree more with the theme, equality for women is overdue but still achievable. Individual and organizational feminists expressed their excitement for the day on Saturday, March 8h on social media all around the world. Some of the tweets and posts surrounding International Women’s day were about education and the lack of equal education for boys and girls. The hashtag used for March 8th was “#WomensDay,” people  tweeted words of encouragement, statistics, and brought awareness to critical women’s issues.

Google celebrated Women’s day with a video doodle that went viral because everyone who visited the site on saturday was greeted by this doodle.

The “play” button opened this video…

The video featured women that represented different ages, races, languages, and different backgrounds altogether. The women were recorded wishing the world a Happy International Women’s Day.
